There was no grand plan to build an international software company.
In 2006, Torben Dueholm Rasmussen and Karsten Grau Rasmussen simply wanted to solve a practical problem: music-school administration involved far too much paper, too many spreadsheets and too much time spent on things that had very little to do with music.
So they built something better.
Torben knew the world of the music school. Karsten knew how to build software.
Together, they started developing a solution.
The first version of SpeedAdmin was developed together with Sønderborg Musikskole. Then another school became interested. And another. What began as a local side project gradually travelled across municipalities, borders and languages.
“We thought we were solving a problem for one music school. When the third school called and asked whether they could use it too, we realised that the problem wasn’t local.”

Twenty years later, SpeedAdmin is used by more than 700 music and arts schools in nine markets. And the company itself has grown from the two founders to a SpeedAdmin family of more than 40 employees.
That growth has added a very different kind of responsibility. Building software is one thing; building a company where more than 40 people put their time, talent and trust into the same journey is another.
The journey has not exactly followed a carefully written score. Some of the biggest steps happened almost by coincidence, and more than once the founders found themselves halfway up a mountain before realising quite how high it was.

That became a pattern.
What kept them climbing was a simple idea: if technology can remove unnecessary administration, people have more time for the work that actually matters.
Today, SpeedAdmin continues to develop its platform from its headquarters in Sønderborg – still focused on the world of Music and Arts education where the story began.
SpeedAdmin celebrates its 20th anniversary with customers, partners, former employees and friends on 25 August 2026 at Under Broen 3 in Sønderborg.
