Direct Booking

 Direct Booking

Birthe Andersson, Head of Quality and Business Support at the Stockholm Music and Arts School, talks about the transition from manual, paper-based course registration to digital direct booking in 2012. Previously, registrations were handled via a waiting list, but it proved to be ineffective as it did not align the wishes of students and guardians with the actual course availability.

By opening course spots in a digital course catalogue and allowing guardians to make their own selections, the process became more flexible and up-to-date. The transition required a change in working methods for the music teachers, who had previously matched students manually at the start of each term.

An unexpected effect of direct booking was an increase in registrations for subjects without long waiting lists. Parents prioritized securing a place at the Music and Arts School over waiting for their first choice, which led to more students being able to start their education more quickly.
